Slot tested
Fruit Spin gives fruit a whole new sparkling appeal with its diamond-studded symbols, flashy reels and shining free spins mode.
Developed by NetEnt and released in 2018, Fruit Spin is a standard classic slot with a 5-reel, 4-row playing field and 40 paylines. While the game does borrow heavily from the original fruit machines in terms of symbols I wouldn’t call it a fruit machine considering the larger playing field.
I found the slot to look rather simple but packed with visual details. All the symbols had been updated, the fruit looking like they’re made out of diamonds. Whenever a symbol was part of a payline it played a short animation. Some of the other symbols like BAR and 7 weren’t very uniquely designed but were still updated to look sharp and detailed.
Other developers have a lot of these type of games, where it plays like a classic slot without many new or unique features. The symbols are pretty standard as well. Some good examples include Inferno Star by Play ‘n GO, Magic Wilds by Red Rake Gaming and Stickers by NetEnt itself. If you are the type of player that wants a new theme but no big surprises to the classic slot experience, I would recommend these games and Fruit Spin as well!
The music was surprisingly present for this type of slot. It plays a chill relaxing beat in the background during the base game, sometimes spiced up when there was a win. Meanwhile, the free spins mode has the music pick up a bit to energise players. I found the music to be above what I would expect from a slot like this!
Symbols
As mentioned before, Fruit Spin borrows most of its symbols from the classic fruit machines. They’ve been updated to look more modern and the fruit symbols specifically are redesigned to look like they’re made from diamonds and emeralds. Unfortunately, they didn’t carry that design all the way through to the other symbols, even though they could have in my mind.
The symbols are from highest to lowest:
All symbols can appear as Stacked Reels during the base game and the free spins mode. They can also appear as 2x2 and 3x3 stacked symbols. Scatter symbols can appear as 3x3 stacked symbols, any part of which on the screen will activate the free spins mode.
Wilds appear as normal during the base game but appear as 3x3 Stacked Wilds during free spins mode. During the free spins mode, only the high-paying symbols appear.
Features
Fruit Spin doesn’t have a great number of features but the ones that are there function pretty well. They won’t surprise anyone that’s been playing slots for a while but they might still grant some surprises!
The features are pretty standard except for the Bonus Wheel, which was part of the Free Spins mode. Depending on the number of rows with Scatter Symbols, 3 wheels spin. Each wheel is filled with different coin values and extra free spins. The player starts the free spins mode with 3 free spins and any additional free spins unlocked with the bonus wheels.
The Stacked Symbols helped in getting wins. They didn’t appear very regularly for me but they showed up often enough to make it interesting. Having only high-paying symbols in the free spins mode with 3x3 Wild grids made it easily the most profitable part of the game. In my experience, the free spins mode unlocked pretty regularly.
This fit the Low Volatility, where you get regular but low paying wins. The frequent free spins mode helped to get some bigger number but if you’re looking for big wins you’re probably better off trying another slot.
In Conclusion
Fruit Spin is a simple but competent slot with enough features to elevate it above the regular fruit machines but not beyond the classic slot idea. The features won’t surprise many players but they offer enough variety to keep things interesting. The free spins mode triggering regularly did help me stay engaged.
The slot has nice graphics for a classic game, even though the symbols are uninspired. The background is a simple blue wallpaper literally made up out of triangles. The free spins mode is the same except with a different colour.
If you’re a fan of games like this, Fruit Spin will deliver exactly what you’re looking for. The game offers a simple but enjoyable experience. The features aren’t very original but help to keep things moving.
For me, Fruit Spin was a little too rudimentary to hold my attention for very long. That’s not a sign that the game is bad, however, as we all have our preferences. The low volatility meant that a steady but low supply of wins kept my funds pretty high. Still, the game allows the player to choose a bet between $0.20 and $200 per spin, meaning it’s possible to increase or decrease the risk. It’s max. win of 600x your bet also felt in line with the listed volatility.

I've been playing videoslots for almost 10 years and been a professional reviewer for over 5. I look at slots not just as a writer but also as a player, hoping to help others find their perfect slot.
I also enjoy movies, books and travel so any slots with those topics usually have my preference. But in general I'll play everything!
