Dukes Casino didn’t look like the classiest of sites but after spending some time here I found it actually works pretty well.

To kick things off, it was a basic 2-page sign up form. A password, mobile number and email were required on the first page with the rest of my info, including date of birth and full address on page 2. After ticking the box to agree to the casino’s terms, I hit ‘Submit’ to create my shiny new account. I then got a pop-up asking for permission to receive pop-up notifications in the browser plus another chance to opt-in to their regular promotions and offers.

Dismissing those, I also had to enter a 4-digit code which had been sent to me via SMS. The text was a bit confusing as it also contained a ‘Payment Validation’ code which didn’t seem to be required anywhere. The code successfully verified my account, and I was good to head to the cashier and make my first deposit.

Spending some time here, I found that everything was pretty easy to use, and the site worked much better than I initially expected it to. I was particularly glad to see that the promotional banner doesn’t get in the way and take over each page. Dukes get bonus points for that!

Immediately after depositing my funds, I got a pop-up message inviting me to play my 20 free spins on Book of Dead. I clicked ‘Play Now’ and the game loaded up immediately with 2 messages on top of it. The first pop-up told me that I was playing with real money, but the second one confirmed I had 20 free spins to play with. Needlessly confusing!

The free spins were worth £0.10 each and after playing them through I came away with a measly £1.00 in winnings. Heading to the ‘Bonus History’ section under the cashier section, I could see a breakdown of my active bonuses. This told me that my £1 required £50 of wagering to release it which matched the ghastly 50x (B) wagering requirements attached to my free spins winnings. The same 50x (D) wagering applied to my £40 cash match bonus, which was shown on a separate line, meaning I’d have to play through £2,000 to claim that. I do like a challenge, but this seemed far too high when there are much better offers around, so I opted to forfeit both bonuses right there.

Using the desktop version of the site, I found it easy to find the games I wanted to play using the clean menu layout. It was good to see the search function and dropdown list of providers here too. It’s just a shame that the games selection is lacking a few classics such as Immortal Romance which are sorely missed.

I started off with a few £0.60 spins on Monopoly Megaways and pretty much broke even with one £7+ win. Moving on to Gemix, I had a fair few £0.50 spins but only triggered the bonus once and came away several pounds lighter. I fared much better on Legacy of Dead where my £0.50 spins triggered the free spins round twice, bagging me over £45 in wins.

Switching over to the live casino section of the site, I tried a few hands of both Speed Baccarat and Speed Roulette. Neither of these brought any significant wins, so I fell back on a few games of trusty old Super Sic Bo. My poor run continued, however, so I called it a day for my desktop gaming session.

I’m happy to report that both the live casino and slot games loaded and played without any issues. Using my stable broadband connection and ancient laptop, the live streams looked fresh and didn’t come with any glitches.

Logging in to the Dukes Casino mobile site I got a pop-up message asking if I’d like to allow notifications from the site. Taking a look around, it was easy to find all the same features and functions from the desktop site on my Android mobile screen. The only real annoyance was the narrow casino games menu which I had to scroll through from left to right. It was a bit fiddly, and miss-taps were all too easy to do. Each game I tapped on asked if I wanted to play for real or in demo mode. It was a nice touch which helped me to avoid a misplaced finger on any game thumbnail.

Checking out the mobile games selection, I loaded up Willy’s Hot Chillies for some £0.60 spins. Nothing spicy came my way, however, and I finished up with less than I started with. I then checked out Mighty Aztec with some £0.50 spins and triggered the free spins round for a tidy £14 win. Finally, I played Diamond Mine with some £0.40 spins and soon hit a £7.60 win so I walked away pretty happy there.

All the games I tried out worked well in mobile mode, and I didn’t experience any glitches. Diamond Mine was the only one which forced me to use landscape mode, but it wasn’t an issue and worked well.

I clicked on the chat icon at the top of the screen and saw a pop-up with the option of live chat or a contact form to fill out. I loaded up the live chat box by clicking on ‘Chat With Us’ and then had to fill in my name and email address before getting connected. The chat was answered in under 10 seconds by one of the support team.

The agent answered my question about withdrawal times with a concise yet polite answer, but it certainly wasn’t the fastest casino chat I’ve experienced. There was a fair delay between their answers, but we got there in the end. On the plus side, they did ask if there was anything else they could help me with which is always a pro touch!

Beyond the player support features, it was good to see a pretty comprehensive FAQs section at Dukes Casino. It had most of the essential info on payments and limits but I’m not sure why the link is buried in the footer and not included under the ‘My Account’ or ‘Support’ sections.

I was pleased to see a decent amount of information on account verification at Dukes Casino. It was mentioned in the FAQs section as well as having a dedicated ‘Verify ID’ section in the cashier menu. There were 4 separate areas for Identity Card, Address, Payment and Other. Clicking on each one displayed a list of accepted documents, and there was a spot to securely upload the requested verification info.

As it turned out, I was able to withdraw my winnings without triggering any further verification checks on my account. I’m sure this will be required later on if wanted to make any withdrawals of my winnings.

Making a deposit was made pretty simple by having just a 1-page form to deal with. Here I selected the payment provider, my trusty Mastercard Debit and manually entered my deposit amount. There was also a ‘Deposit code’ box if I wanted to claim any special offers which I skipped over in favour of the casino’s welcome offer package. I hit ‘Deposit’ and had to click to agree with the Protection of Customer Funds pop-up before the transaction went through. It took around 5 seconds, and my deposit was confirmed by a pop-up on the screen and an email with the transaction details.

The withdrawal process was thankfully just as simple. Heading to the cashier section, I selected ‘Withdrawal’ and entered the amount I wished to request. My card details were already saved, so all I had to do was click on ‘Withdrawal’. I got a pop-up to say that they would be unable to reverse my withdrawal once I’d confirmed the request. I clicked to dismiss that notice and got another message to say that my withdrawal request had been received, but no timescale was given. An email with my request details came through instantly too. When I asked on live chat for a timescale, they said it would take around 3 business days to approve my request.

The main downside here was the very high withdrawal fee of £2.50! This is applied regardless of the amount requested so will particularly sting on smaller cashouts. It took just under 3 days, over a weekend, for my withdrawal to be approved by Dukes Casino. Once approved, the funds appeared in my account instantly. I have to take away marks for this lengthy wait combined with the high transaction fee.
