What could be a decent casino is let down by a slack verification and customer support system plus withdrawal fees.

Thankfully, sign-up was an easy process with a 3-step form for me to complete. There was the option to click on the ‘PayPal - Quick Registration’ button, but I decided to take the more traditional route here. The first section was for my name, mobile, email and date of birth. The second page was for my address, and the final page was for entering a username and password of my choice. I hit ‘Join Now’ and after a few seconds saw a pop-up inviting me to deposit and claim the welcome bonus right away. I entered my card details to drop in some funds and get started.

Once I logged in and made my initial deposit, I found this casino to be a bit too basic for my liking. For example, clicking on ‘My Account’ gave me some very limited options and hardly any details whatsoever. There was also nowhere to see how far I’d progressed with any bonus wagering or even which specific bonuses were live on my account.

Right after depositing, I had to refresh the screen to get my new bankroll balance to show up. When I did this, the Mega Reel popped up ready for me to spin it and see what welcome bonus I would be getting. I hit the green play button, and the reel landed on 50 free spins on Starburst with another pop-up inviting me to play them right away. I hit ‘Play Now’, but Starburst failed to load the first time. I clicked on it in the casino lobby, and the game confirmed that I had 50 free rounds to play. I auto-played through all 50 spins and landed a winning total of £16.65, which was instantly added to my bonus balance.

The annoying aspect for me was the fact that I couldn’t view my wagering progress anywhere on the site. This, combined with the astronomical 65x (B) wagering requirement on my 50 free spins bonus made it a pretty poor welcome bonus experience all-round. It’s certainly one to forget for me as I’m never a fan of this randomly awarded style welcome bonuses.

I started with a few £0.40 spins on Willy’s Hot Chillies just because it has an amusing name. The lack of any wins was no laughing matter, though, and my funds quickly depleted, so I moved on to another game. Selecting Medallion Megaways, I tried out some £0.30 spins but didn’t land anything worth mentioning here either. Immortal Romance was up next, but I failed to land anything decent here either.

I moved onto the Live Casino section but was disappointed with the small selection on offer under the ‘Table Games’ menu tab. There was just a handful of live-streamed roulette and blackjack tables, so I had a few rounds on Pragmatic Play’s Live Roulette. I hit a losing streak there so played a few hands-on Live Blackjack E, but my fortunes remained the same here too.

All the games I sampled, loaded and played on the desktop version of the site without any issues or glitches. The main issue I found was the display size of the slot games, I couldn’t see the whole game screen without zooming out in my browser settings. It’s not a big downside, it looks like they need to work on their site’s responsiveness.

Browsing around the mobile version of VIP Spins, I found all the functionality that I’d encountered on the desktop version, albeit organised a little differently. One very strange thing here was the use of a bottom menu on the main casino screens. This gave me quick access to Fluffy Favourites and Starburst as well as the deposit page, messages and trophies. It felt pretty unnecessary and didn’t contribute anything to my mobile casino session here.

Checking out the games selection, I opted for a few spicy spins on Chilli Heat. Things kept ticking over nicely with my £0.25 bets, but there were no great wins to log here. I loaded up Irish Potluck, but despite being thrown a few wilds, I didn’t land anything significant here. Having a final throw of the dice on Book of Gold - Double Chance didn’t bring me any riches either so I decided to call it a day.

The games I tried all loaded and played on the mobile site without any issues so I can’t fault it there. I just feel that the navigation and layout on the smaller screen could be a bit nearer to give a better all-round mobile experience.

It’s disappointing to see any online casino around right now that does not offer live chat support, and unfortunately, I discovered that VIP Spins is one of them. The only option I had for reaching out to the support team was via email or to scan through a basic FAQs page. The pretty limited FAQs section available on the site covers most of the basics. Looking through the answers, it just didn’t feel like this is enough to answer the key questions from most players, and they’ll end up emailing in any way.

I emailed the support team asking when I’d be able to make a withdrawal. I got an auto-response a few minutes later asking me to reply with my username, date of birth and postcode. I never actually got a reply to this initial email, as I followed it up by sending in the documents which were requested for my account verification. This just isn’t the way to deal with any urgent issues, and VIP Spins loses big marks here for not offering any live chat function.

Right after playing through my 50 free spins, I got a pop-up inviting me to verify my account now to avoid any delays in the future. I don’t think it was obligatory to do it at this stage so I dismissed this to see if it would be required in the future. However, when I went to make a withdrawal, I got a different pop-up saying that my account is currently being reviewed. This sounded like the initial check any player would get, and it stated that this could take up to 48 hours.

It took over 3 days before the checks had been performed, and I was able to request a withdrawal. The really annoying part was the lack of communication here, I got no email or SMS to tell me that I’d passed this check. Things didn’t get much better when I went to make a withdrawal request and got another pop-up saying that the casino needed me to send some documentation. They said that I’d now need to fully verify my account before my withdrawal request was processed.

After sending in an image of my driving licence and a recent bank statement, it took VIP Spins 4 days before the verification was complete. This was quite an annoying wait, given the previous holdup and well over the 72 hours, most casinos promise. Combined with the fact, there’s no secure upload portal and all this is done via email, takes a few points away from VIP Spins. The only silver lining here was that as soon as my account was verified, the funds were released and instantly landed in my bank account.

Funding your VIP Spins Casino account is a doddle. You have various banking methods available at your disposal, including Visa Mastercard, Paysafecard and PayPal.

As soon as I’d signed up, I got the opportunity to make my deposit using the simple form. I entered my card details, selected the pre-set deposit amount and hit the massive bright green ‘Deposit Now’ button. Just over 5 seconds later, I landed in the casino lobby, but the balance was still showing as £0. A quick refresh of the page fixed this, but it wasn’t the best of starts at a new casino.

Things got worse when I attempted to make a withdrawal. On my first try, I got a message saying that my account was still being checked over. I waited 3 days before I could make a withdrawal request and then when I did I had to wait for full verification which took another 4 days. On top of this was the irritating £2.50 fee which was applied to all withdrawals, regardless of their size.

I finally got an email to say that the verification process was complete. Around 4 minutes later I had an email to say that my withdrawal had been approved and when I checked my bank account I could see that the funds had landed at exactly the same time. The moral of the story here seems to be that you need to verify your account early at this casino to make things smooth in the future. To be fair, they did try to tell me that!
