Enchanted Meadow is the first time we travel down into the miniature world of fairies and big wins. I’m curious to see what kind of adventures we get into!
Created by developer Play ‘n GO and released way back in 2012, Enchanted Meadow is the first game in the Enchanted series, followed up in 2014 by Enchanted Crystals. Both games take place in a garden where we are surrounded by enormous blades of grass and of course a group of fairies. Beyond that though, the games don’t seem to be very connected.
The playing field is the standard 5-reel, 3-row version with a total of 15 paylines. During my time playing the Medium Volatility translated well, giving me a pretty steady number of wins over time.
The game still looks pretty good considering its age. The symbols are lightly animated and look a little dated. Compared to newer slots who don’t animate their symbols at all it does have an edge in my opinion. It makes the game look a bit more lively when there’s some movement to see.
The soundtrack fits the game well. It has a very light song playing in the background that’s only a little more audible when there is a win. Activating the free spins mode starts another song that gives a bit of energy to the game. All in all, I consider the dreamlike sounds to enhance the setting.
Symbols
The game has a good collection of symbols, divided as usual between original high-paying symbols and standard card symbols. All of them are drawn seemingly by hand to fit the setting.
From highest to lowest they are:
The symbols all look sufficiently different from each other to make them easily recognisable. Since they’re hand-drawn they also stay nice to look at, unlike most 3D models that start to look outdated over time.
Features
Enchanted Meadow has quite a lot of features, some of which overlap. Starting off with a quick overview:
The best feature in my mind was the free spins mode. Once you activate it you start with 0 free spins since you have to find them first! You do this by picking different spots where the fairies could be hiding out. You can click different spots, adding fairies (and free spins) to your inventory as you go, until a wasp flies out. At that point, you stop being able to find fairies and instead the free spins mode begins with the number of free spins you collected from the fairies.
The Scatter Symbol was maybe the most confusing since it is usually associated with a bonus game or some kind of special feature. Here, it just means that the symbols don’t have to appear on a payline to grant a win. Get 3 or more anywhere on the screen to be awarded a win. The amount of coins isn’t very high though. I thought that was because it’s quite common to get a win but that’s not true either!
The benefit to the Scatter Symbol really only comes into play during the free spins mode. Get 2 or more Scatter Symbols on the screen at the same time and it applies a multiplier to your wins, up to a maximum of 5x the win.
In Conclusion
Enchanted Meadow is an older game that’s surpassed by a lot of other slots, including its own sequel Enchanted Crystals. The graphics hold up well, however. The different features work well together but are also a little confusing.
Sometimes I’m in the mood for a relaxing, colourful slot and on that front Enchanted Meadow definitely delivers. It has the right feel to it that makes you want to relax and just spin for a while. There isn’t much you have to pay attention to, most of the game plays itself. The only real active part was the start of the free spins mode.
On the whole, I’d consider Enchanted Meadow pretty middle of the road. You can choose a bet between £0.01 and £18.75. Granting a max. win of 2,500x your bet means it can be worth the time but it won’t be as high of a jackpot as you’ll find in other slots.
