Jurassic World slot review

The T-Rex is so last year, time to meet the Indominus Rex in Microgaming’s Jurassic World. Head over to Isla Nublar and meet the characters from the 2015 blockbuster in this 5-reel, 3-column slot with 243 ways to pay.

There are voracious dinosaurs around every corner but there are also vast riches awaiting in the bonus feature. The Indominus Rex too might bring you a very pleasant and unexpected surprise.

If you’re a fan of the movie you won’t be disappointed by this slot. Microgaming did yet another great job when translating a movie brand to their slots.

Symbols

The high-paying symbols are represented by your favourite Jurassic World Characters. The low-paying symbols take the shape of the most famous dinosaurs from the movie.

The symbols, from highest to the lowest consist of:

• The scatter tile is the all-important amber and can appear anywhere on the reels. Scatter pays in any position and yields 100x with 5-of-a-kind. With 3 scatters the free spins round is triggered awarding 10 free spins. Two scatters will turn into Wilds.
• The Wild tile substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter and yields 8.33x with five-of-a-kind.
• Owen Grady yields 6.67x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• Claire Dearing yields 5.83x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• Simon Masrani yields 5x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• Vik Hoskins yields 4.17x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• The Indominus Rex yields 2x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• The T-Rex yields 1.83x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• The Velociraptor yields 1.67x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• The Stegosaurus yields 1.5x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.
• The Pterodactyl yields 1.33x with 5-of-a-kind adjacent tiles.

Unlike in Jurassic Park, there is no animation when the win is registered. But they did keep the movie clip animation whenever a large win happened.

Features

• The Bonus Round

Landing 3 or more scatters will trigger the bonus round. Within the bonus round there are 3 free spins features that are randomly awarded: 1) Gyrosphere Valley, 2) Creation Lab and 3) Raptor Den. Each bonus round starts with 10 free spins.

In the Gyrosphere Valley, the multiplier will increase on every non-winning spin. When a win is registered it resets. The round can only end on a winning spin.

In the Creation Lab winning symbols are removed to make way for new ones and this continues until no more wins are registered. Any Wilds that appear are iced in and will stay for 3 wins.

When in the Raptor Den all scatters are wild and they are held until they award additional free spins. Three or more scatters award another 5 free spins. Here, instead of the respin feature being randomly awarded, the player will be able to choose which bonus feature to go for.

• Indominus feature

When in the base game there is a chance for the Indominus Rex to make an appearance. When it does, it will award a random multiplier up to 1,000x the win.

In conclusion

The same as the Jurassic World movie couldn’t match up to Jurassic Park, this slot does fall short when compared to the Jurassic Park slot, especially now it has been remastered. Microgaming did an amazing job with the original slot and even though some elements feature in Jurassic World I think it doesn’t really live up to its predecessor.

That’s not to say this wasn’t an enjoyable game to play. If taken on its own, the slot is a good representation of the movie. Mechanics wise, it has medium volatility and a nice max win of 14,166x. However, the RTP is set quite low at 95.45% when compared to other similar slots.

I did enjoy the scatter tiles turning into wilds during the base game especially as they managed to create a few 5-of-a-kind combinations. The bonus rounds aren’t too hard to get into but as greedy as I am, I would prefer being able to choose which feature to play out in the bonus round rather than it be randomly assigned. What blew my mind was the surprise appearance of the Indominus Rex - the star of this slot. When it appeared, it made me jump and even though it only brought with it a 10x multiplier, the 44x win was very much appreciated.
