Slot tester's review: Trystan Michielsen
Slot tested
Prosperity Palace has an Asian setting where the palace in the title is filled with various symbols meant to help people in their lives find prosperity. The game offers free spins and wilds to help with that.
The game was developed by Play ‘n GO and released in 2017, showing off its graphics and animations to its players. The slot is played on a standard 5-reel, 3-row playing field with only 10 win lines. This is pretty regular for games by this developer who likes to stick close to the classic slot experience.
The symbols used in the game look great, especially the high-paying symbols. You can except some animations whenever they’re part of a win as well. The background shows us the outlines of the titular palace, draped in familiar Asian symbolism and decorations. In that regard, Prosperity Palace doesn’t win any points for uniqueness.
If you were expecting a sudden departure from the theme when it comes to the music you’d be dead wrong. Here too the game doesn’t do anything outside of the norm, playing a slow, familiar-sounding Chinese song. The sound effects also stick close to the familiar with simple jingles for wins and more bombastic clips when there is a big win.
Symbols
The symbols in the game look good, with the high-paying symbols drawn in high detail and showing off different elements in Oriental culture. The low-paying symbols are based on simple card letters, with the design of the letters slightly influenced by the setting but not enough to really feel integrated.
These are the different symbols:
Players can pick a bet between £0.10 and £100 per spin. With the listed Low Volatility this gives them some opportunity to augment the potential coin wins. I found the volatility to fit my experience, especially since the free spins mode triggered very often. This helped artificially raise my funds. I did think that overall I would lose a little more than I’d win as I would very slowly bleed coins.
Features
Prosperity Palace offers players only a few features with which to change the standard gameplay. Most of the time, you’ll just be spinning the reels. The features the game does have are fun but not original at all.
The game doesn’t have a lot of symbols and the Wilds were pretty common, which resulted in the low volatility. At the same time, the payouts for wins aren’t very high so you are expected to win a little but frequently to make a profit. I found this to be harder than it looks, as it could be a few spins before I got a win at which point only a big win would make back my bets.
One thing that does help a lot is the frequent activation of the Free Spins mode. I’d be wary to give an indication of how often it did trigger, but using Autoplay I would almost never hit the end of the automatic spins without triggering this mode.
The Free Spins mode doesn’t play any different than the rest of the game, but the Scatter Symbols now acting as Wilds did help a little bit in triggering wins. Still, you can consider a Free Spins mode to activate often to mean it balances out by not paying any big wins. This holds true in Prosperity Palace.
In Conclusion
Prosperity Palace is a slot with some nice graphics but there is almost no creativity in display here. The game is set in an overused setting, using tired iconography for its symbols, doesn’t innovate when it comes to its music or features either.
It’s not a bad slot and there is a huge market for players that enjoy these type of classic slots with some slight twinges of originality but which offer no learning curve or unexpected features. Simply sit down and begin spinning and you’ll have it figured out instantly.
I’m glad Play ‘n GO doesn’t lean on these type of stop-gap games too often because they are wholly indistinguishable from many other slots of this sort, making it very difficult to even remember this game as soon as the tab is closed.
