Expert's review Trystan Michielsen
Slot tested
Pyramyth comes to us from Thunderkick studios, a growing developer that has shown us a great number of excellent slots. This one is obviously set in Ancient Egypt but offers some interesting features like free spins, walking wilds and sticky re-spins to keep us invested.
The game was released in 2021 and it shows, with its excellent graphics and a number of very appealing animations. You can expect a pretty standard base game with its 5-reel, 3-row playing field and the average number of 15 paylines on the screen. This is all presented to us in a very light and colourful presentation that is very appealing to the eye.
We’re placed in some rather mythological depiction of Ancient Egypt with two statues in the distance that dwarf even the Great Pyramid of Giza. It’s a fun little touch that steps away from the rather generic look we’ve come to expect from this civilization. Additional small details help bring it to life a bit more. We can see fluffy white clouds lazily drift by as well as flocks of birds crossing behind the playing field.
When it comes to the music the designers chose a mix between the standard Egyptian music and a very toned-down atmosphere song. I couldn’t really pinpoint exactly what the style is but it was original enough not to be jarring. Wins get their own tune but they stay close to the song that’s playing in the background.
Symbols
Pyramyth is set in Egypt so you can probably fill out a big number of the symbols yourself. You would be largely correct with the expected scarabs and visage of Ra and the like. The low-paying symbols are generic card letters but presented in a way that you could expect to find them among the hieroglyphs. Why the designers never actually go for the hieroglyphs themselves I’ll never know.
When it comes to gameplay, players should be aware of the High Volatility that the game brings to the table. Still, I found the slot to be rather liberal with handing out wins, they were often just not high enough to compensate for the bets. If you want to walk away with a win, you’re going to have to make use of the features I’ll discuss below.
Speaking of bets, players can pick a bet between £0.10 and £100 which is the standard for slots like this. The maximum win is a hefty 10,000x your bet, which is higher than I normally see with slots such as these. Finally, the game has an RTP of 96,17%. Another boon to the game, even though it’s only a slight advantage. High rollers might want to consider giving this slot a try!

Features
Pyramyth uses a number of different features to keep things interesting. These all help in making the wins you get bigger, but getting them to activate proved tricky for me.
The features include:
As you can probably tell, most of the features hinge around the ability to get the free spins mode to activate. This was in my experience the most challenging part. I played the game for more than an hour and only had it trigger a handful of times. This meant that most of the features were essentially locked away.
It’s clear that the game requires the player to hit the free spins mode, and then get a number of wins. Wilds also help a lot in this case to increase the size of the wins. If you don’t get into the bonus game you are likely not going to win enough to compensate for your spins. As a result, I found my coins to slowly bleed away as I tried to get into the free spins mode.
In Conclusion
Pyramyth is a very attractive slot even though it uses a tired setting as the base. As the name clarifies, this is a mythological version of Ancient Egypt that offers the creators some leeway in its design. The graphics are beautiful and the added animations help it come to life.
The gameplay is very hit or miss for me. There are some interesting features but as I explained above they are only activated when hitting the free spins mode. Since that proved to be exceptionally difficult, it meant that most features were simply irrelevant for most of the time.
Players that enjoy playing the same slot for a long period of time, or power players that can afford to place large bets are likely the only ones that will ever get to see the free spins mode and that’s too bad. If it had been a little easier to activate I think this could have been a real winner.
