Slot tester's review Trystan Michielsen
Victoria Wild is centred around a female Indiana Jones, a rugged explorer who heads out into the desert to find ancient ruins and hidden treasures. The game features great graphics, an intriguing heroine, a bonus game, free spins and more.
This slot was developed by Yggdrasil through their studio TrueLab and released in 2020, showing off some of their old glory when it comes to the graphics and design that they’ve become famous for. The game shows us deep in the desert with a ramshackle construction framing the 5-reel, 3-row playing field with its 15 paylines. We see Victoria on her motorcycle sitting on the side, while there are ruins and mountains far in the distance.
The symbols are all original, with the usual low-paying symbols being cardinal directions instead of card letters or suits. A simple but effective change that fits the theme a lot better without the developers having any extra work. The symbols aren’t animated a lot but there are some moving parts, including a vulture sitting on the dead tree overlooking the slot.
When it comes to the music, Victoria Wild comes with some familiar but unique sounding songs. The traditional theme of Indiana Jones and similar adventure films is kept intact without making it sound too similar. Different symbols also trigger original sound-effects that fit the setting while making clear something happened in the game.
The symbols in Victoria Wild are sharp and well-drawn, looking realistic without being boring. The game comes with High Volatility, a combination of a large number of symbols, the relatively low number of paylines and the features that are difficult to trigger but can offer some big wins.
The symbols in the game include:
Players can pick their bet between £0.15 and £45 per spin to make the game more or less risky. The max. win of 25,000x your bet is obviously very appealing but it didn’t feel attainable to me, and it will require a number of features to activate at the right time to ever be plausible. I would recommend players treat this game as not having a jackpot and simply focus on having a good time.
Victoria Wild is a typical Yggdrasil game in the sense that it has quite a number of different features. Not all of them appear as frequently, with the bonus game and free spins mode being exceedingly rare.
The vast majority of the time, players will find themselves playing the base game. The Free Spins mode can be triggered by collecting 25 Oasis symbols but this is slow and can take hundreds of spins since the Oasis symbol is quite rare.
The Bonus Game, Temple Free Spins, could activate a lot quicker but in my experience never did. Even just getting 3 Scatter symbols on the screen proved to be an impossible task. It also meant that getting the Wheel of Desires, which happens after the Bonus Game, was invisible to me.
During the base game, you can expect the normal features. The main one is the Wild, but this can be replaced by a Tornado Wild. The Tornado Wild can, but won’t always, add random Wilds to the playing field. Different Tornado Wilds can collide, triggering a re-spin with Sticky Wilds. Just like the Bonus Game, this proved to be incredibly rare and I never saw it happen.
In my opinion, I can’t really credit a slot for having a lot of features when a lot of them simply never appear. This might have been my particular experience playing it but I feel like it was intentionally difficult to do.
Victoria Wild is a nice-looking slot with a lot of enticing elements. The graphics are spot-on as usual, and I liked the music too. The style of the game isn’t very original but the way the developers decided to present it definitely deserves some points.
As a slot, I’m afraid it doesn’t really hit the high quality I’ve come to expect from Yggdrasil. The features that are there all sound very interesting on paper but the fact that almost half of them never appeared as I play should point out the problem. The high volatility is obviously a huge part of this, where players can easily spend a long time without a single meaningful way.
If you are looking for something pretty and relaxing then Victoria Wild might be a good choice. Power players that enjoy looking for games with a high level of risk will also find what they’re looking for here. People that prefer something a little more casual but with an interesting number of features might prefer to look elsewhere, simply because the features are so badly paced out.
