What to make of Jackie Jackpot? My initial response was something like ‘is this it?’ The website looks like the inside of a working man’s pub from 1995. It’s simple. It’s basic. It would probably serve warm beer with a scowl. For goodness sake, it wasn’t even formatted to my screen properly.

It’s generous to say I was greeted, but let’s just say I was greeted, with a big banner advertising 10 no deposit spins on Book of Dead and that was it. No moving sliders, no decent cartoons, no graphics. Just that. To be blunt, it was awful, but after playing for a bit I came to the realisation that it can be basic as long as it’s functional - and to give Jackie Jackpot credit, the whole website worked really well.

Signing up was a really straightforward process and it took me a few minutes before I was ready to go. After I signed up, the website did start to look a little better, but wouldn’t you rather lay out all the bells and whistles for someone who hasn’t signed up yet rather than give existing members the good stuff? It seems like a weird decision to take.

Despite the crude looks, Jackie Jackpot was really functional. It did exactly what everyone needs it to do - the games ran well and there was a high level of variety. Mobile wise, everything was functional and easy to navigate while I was won over by the excellent customer service.

Jackie Jackpot offers 10 no deposit spins on Book of Dead when using the promo code LUCKY10, which can be a little bit annoying to put in but at least you know what you're getting.

The site also had a first deposit offer, this time it was for a generous 150% bonus up to $400 plus 20 free spins on Doom of Dead when you use the code DEPOSIT 20.

Two separate bonuses are fairly generous from the casino, who really tried to lay it on thick for new customers.

Jackie Jackpot appears to offer random spot bonuses as well because when I logged in for a second time a big banner popped up advertising a Starburst promotion that looked a lot like the New Player Bonus, except this one was for 100 spins and $200.

With a name like Jackie Jackpot, you might think that slot games and big winnings would be at the forefront of the website, and you’d be absolutely right. The homepage has more slots and jackpots than you can shake a stick at, so I thought it was only right and proper to play a slot.

I haven’t played Reactoonz 2 (Play ‘n GO) before, so I thought I’d jump on that. It seemed like a fun game with plenty of opportunities to win big - however my luck had deserted me and 40c a spin meant that I didn’t spend too long on this game before I cut my losses.

War of Gods looked decent, but the Red Tiger-developed game needs a little tweak because it was giving me an error message that said I was playing with an invalid currency. Jackie Jackpot definitely needs to give that a look because it’ll ruin the experience for a lot of NZ players.

Plan ‘n GO’s Bull In A China Shop caught my eye and I liked the 20c spin option, so I gave that a few whirls. It was a pretty fun experience, with plenty of different game options and some nice multipliers.

I like Lightning Roulette (Evolution), which spits out random multipliers and has a minimum bet of $1. All of these things are massive gold stars in my book - while the dealer was busy cracking jokes and making sure that everyone was having a great time; and soon, so was I after the 100x lightning multi came in on one of my numbers and I banked a lovely $150 from a $1 bet.

The mobile site looked nice and was easy to navigate; two cornerstones of any pleasant mobile experience. Game shows are becoming more popular so I had a little flutter on Monopoly Live (Evolution Gaming) - the sounds, the host and the little bonuses normally make for a fun time and this was no different. You can play with as little as 20c, which means this is accessible to all users, and it ran really smoothly over 4G. This host, Clara, was entertaining and kept on interacting with all the different players throughout my time in Monopoly.

Table games are normally good on mobile as they load nice and quick, but that’s because they don’t have the bells and whistles that live casino games have. One small issue I had with 10p Roulettte was that it formats quite small on the screen, so anyone with big hands or fingers runs the risk of hitting the wrong bet and the wrong numbers by mistake.

I wanted to get in touch with customer service but I’d been granted a bonus I didn’t want. My first issue with the support offered by this site was that it was really difficult to find, and included a lot of dead clicks on things like a customer support banner that led you nowhere. Even clicking on the big ‘click here for live chat’ button didn’t seem to be working - which isn’t a great start for anyone who needs help. I had to log out of my account and log back in before things got working again.

Even though I was grumpy with the buttons not working, the service I got from Bruno was excellent. I was replied to very quickly, and the bonus that I didn’t want was removed. He also went above and asked if I wanted bonuses removed from my account on a permanent basis, which was a good touch.

I wasn’t required to verify any details before I created an account or deposited money, but it was required for me to withdraw. I uploaded my NZ driving license as well as a recent utility bill showing my address - fortunately, I have both of those to hand so it didn’t take any time at all.

It was easy to access the document upload section on the website, and I was able to give Jackie Jackpot the stuff they wanted pretty easily.

You can avail yourself of standard bank debit and credit cards, e-wallet options as well as prepaid vouchers to make deposits.

It was easy to deposit money using my e-wallet, which I had experienced some problems within New Zealand recently. Kiwi players should really think about opening an e-wallet account because MasterCard doesn’t accept withdrawals back onto the card and therefore there’s no easy way to get your money out if you’ve deposited using a bank card.

Luckily there were no issues with Jackie Jackpot at all, at least not on the depositing front. A $2 fee to withdraw my own money always feels like the brown handshake nobody wants, and it took 48 hours to appear in my ecoPayz account.
